RUNNING CoppaFeel! means I inevitably spend a lot of my working life with other women diagnosed with breast cancer.
If you have read my column for a while you will already know of the heartache that I, as someone with secondary breast cancer, go through when a friend with the same disease dies. Sadly, it?셲 a too frequent phenomenon.
I?셶e become pretty close with some of our Boobettes ??the wonderful women who have had a diagnosis, are living with it, or who have had a scare ??who share their stories on behalf of CoppaFeel!
Two of these women, Laura Plane and Sarah Campbell, have been riding the advanced breast cancer train with me for a while. We decided last week it was time to treat ourselves to a day at the Scarlet Hotel spa in Cornwall.
It is rare to find a spa with massage therapists that do not panic about you having stage four breast cancer, but this place is definitely one of them.
I was reminded how important it is to spend time with people who 100 per cent ?쐅et it?? who share your fears, your frustrations and the triumphs (even if they are as simple as finding a way to cope with the side-effect of a treatment).
It was finally time to relax and recuperate after a hectic time with the charity.
The next day we were back on the boob wagon cheering on our cyclists at our annual Hilly Hundred event in Cornwall.
Sarah was supporting her husband Fraser and a bunch of her mates, whilst I was supporting my twin sister Maren, who organised the event.
It was the first year the event took place over just one day and I am happy to report they all survived, with some completing 100 miles!
I am in awe of what people will put themselves through for the charity, so it was emotional watching them cross the finish line.
It was also pretty special to see new faces supporting the cause, as well as seeing friends who vowed NEVER to put themselves through something as awful as that, actually completing it. And not to mention our new pal Russell Howard and his dad who also took on the hills!
It made me feel tired just watching them all. Perhaps it is time to schedule in another spa day.
